About Pantomime Press

In 2001, Robert Martin and Richard Nairn formed Pantomime Press to publish small press comics, graphic novels and prints with the intention of expressing a unique British twist in an American dominated art form.

More influenced by Rupert bear, Paddington, Wallace & Gromit, Bagpuss and Grimm’s fairy tales than superheroes, Pantomime Press took its name from another uniquely British form of entertainment – Pantomimes. With a strong background in fine art, illustration and graphic design, Pantomime Press aims to make work that is varied with a wide appeal to people of all ages.

Between 2001 and 2008 Rob and Rich were regulars on the UK comic convention circuit attending over 15 conventions across Bristol, Birmingham, London and Brighton and producing roughly 30 comics between them. Since then Rich has broken away and become the Artful Doodler caricaturist and also publishes his own books (for adults only). Robert has since revived Pantomime Press and continues to publish his comics, graphic novels and Children’s books. Still in contact, Rob and Rich remain great friends.

Paula Tall

Paula was tall… In fact she was very tall. Being tall can have its advantages like putting the star on the Christmas tree and rescuing stuck cats! However, when Paula started school some bullies soon made fun of her, until a new boy Tim Small, changed how they saw her and the world around them.

This story is about accepting each others differences and realising that what some see as a disadvantage can actually be an advantage.

For ages 4 to 6. Colour cover & interior. 28 pages.

Pride of an Angel

(Original series 2003 – 2008, currently out of print)

Michael Pryde is an eight-year old boy, who on his death is taken to Nowhere, another dimension, by a mysterious woman called Gabby. There he finds himself transformed into a figure somewhere between superhero and angel and becomes king of a massive, sprawling castle called Resthaven, where he lives with his friends Gabby, Alice, Evil Ian, Ralf and Jack Frost.

Soon he is caught up in many different adventures finding himself in all kinds of situations while meeting many strange and bizarre characters along the way.

“Imaginative, unique childhood fantasy. This comic is a little treasure.”
– Darren Worrow, Toonedelic Times

“This storybook tale is perfectly accompanied by rough angular art. Like a child’s fairytale world, it creates its own logic. This has potential to build into an interesting and complex story. Unusual and enjoyable.”
– Comics International
